What Are Some Of The Causes For Infertility?

Many things can cause infertility, and a couple finding out that they cannot have children can be very painful. It is important to know some of the causes for infertility because infertility can stem from many factors and not all are irreparable or irreversible. That is great news because it means that, in a few months of following doctor's orders, you could be looking at your first pregnancy. Even if your doctor tells you that having children is out of the question, do not give up hope. Many so called confirmed infertility cases have turned out to be success stories after the couples have tried alternative methods

Male versus Female Infertility Causes

Infertility is a couple's problem, approximately 40% of the time; the male contributes a significant part to the causes for infertility. Thus it is a couple's problem and not an individual cause.

Usually the woman blames herself when a couple finds out about their infertility. It is a social stigma for a woman to find out that they cannot conceive children. Many factors can cause female infertility. These include genetics, smoking, a poor diet, lack of exercise, a hormone imbalance and more. Usually it is a combination of all these factors that lead to infertility in a woman. If it is the case of genetics there is usually very little to be done as it is a structural problem dealing with the body's inability to ovulate properly. Studies are currently being carried out to find means to resolve these issues.

For male infertility some of the factors leading to it are: low sperm counts, abnormal sperm morphology (shape), and low sperm motility are usually asymptomatic conditions. Smoking, drug use and other lifestyle characteristics often cause male infertility as well. Remember if a couple is unable to conceive the male should be tested to find out if he is the cause. A sample of sperm is required for a test and at times blood and urine samples are also called for to determine the exact cause of infertility.

If a couple discovers one or a few causes of infertility, there are many options open for them. Some more popular treatments currently used are in vitro fertilization, traditional Chinese medicine, a mix of acupuncture and herbal infusions and even yoga. And, if all things fail, there is always adoption. With all that love that couples can give, a lucky little boy or girl sure deserves it. Still much research is ongoing for the causes of infertility and how to treat them, it will be soon that clinician breakthroughs will herald a new dawn for hopeful couples.
