The Causes and Treatment Options for Female Infertility
Female infertility is a problem that plagues almost 1 out of every 15 adult women. Do not fret, as the figures might seem daunting, many cases of infertility are really just poor lifestyle habits by the couples. Your doctor will be the best person to advice you in regards to a treatment plan that will help you achieve the pregnancy you wish. The first step is in understanding the causes of female infertility, so that you can identify and seek appropriate treatment. If you have been having virginal sexual intercourse with out contraceptives for a year and still can't get pregnant. Then you had best seek medical advice. Potential Causes of Female Infertility There are many factors that affect a successful pregnancy. One is the hormonal factors that can wreak havoc with the ovulation process. Numerous tests are available that can detect hormonal issues, including a basal body temperature chart, an ovulation predictor test and blood tests that can evaluate hormone levels at different times during the monthly cycle. If it is hormones that are the cause of your infertility, a course of hormones taken orally can usually raise the body's levels to optimal points. This will allow your body to ovulate normally. Another cause of infertility is structural damage of the fallopian tubes. The fallopian tubes are the pathways by which an egg will travel from the ovaries to the uterus. If the pathways are obstructed or damaged the egg can't make it to its final destination, conception cannot take place. Infections, endometriosis and surgeries all have the potential to cause damage to these tubes. This damage can usually be diagnosed with a variety of tools, and correction can be done with surgery for most cases. In other cases, treatment can involve extracting the egg from the ovary, and fertilizing it outside of the body, and then re- transplanting it inside of the uterus. This will completely eliminate the need for healthy fallopian tubes as a part of the conception process. There are also cases where the cause of female infertility is unknown. If that is the case, you and your doctor will have to determine if there are other alternative treatment options available, or if you wish to instead do an adoption. But the good news to all is that with the advance of medical science, there is very little that the doctor can't cure. Female infertility included.
