What Is Infertility all about?

What is infertility is a question that many people around the world ask. Millions of people world wide are asking this question because infertility is a real and serious issue. Infertility can be defines as "a couple having normal virginal sexual intercourse without birth control for a period of 12 months and unable to conceive". Now in most cases of infertility for a couple about 40% stem from the female, 40% comes from the males. What makes up for the other 20%? Well about 10% to 20% of the time, the cases are unexplained. Both are health and there is no real reason for infertility. So what causes this infertility in apparently healthy people? Lifestyle habits are the answer for most of the cases.

Too much drinking or smoking or drug taking will affect the sperm. Even over strenuous exercises or wearing too tight underwear will hurt the male organ.

Then there are hormonal imbalances as well. Some of the more common cases are hormonal imbalances and thin lining of the uterus. Structural issues like blockages in the fallopian tubes or a weak uterus are also direct causes of infertility in women. Other causes can be blood pressure, stress, anxiety or even a weak immune system.

To answer what infertility is and how it affects you, the first step is a visit to your doctor. Your primary health care physician will be able to give you more options as well as advice to before you make a decision. Usually they will refer you to a specialist in infertility treatments. What is infertility in some is totally different to others thus a specialist will be needed to map out a way for a couple to conceive. Though many times before a visit to the specialist takes place your doctor will be able to find out what caused the infertility in the couple and assist them to conceive.
